Defining my approach to art is so difficult. In fact I fear that defining it might reduce it as a force within me. It feels like colour is lurking just outside the canvas and when I pull the first one in I have to step back and let the colour decide if it is good where it is. Colour usually is very happy where it is, but I find it sometimes a bit shy about letting me know what part I play. If I stay open to what is happening on the canvas and let that determine the progress it is much more satisfying than if I try to direct it. Painting in oils is a journey where I know I am heading out, but do not know where I will end up. The journey is always worth embarking on regardless of the destination.
