Patricia Barbero
Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I now make my home in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. A lifelong artist, I have worked in a variety of mediums over the years: batik, watercolour, tempera, clay, wood, leather, collage, mixed media and (of course!) pastels. I have also shown my work in a variety of galleries and shows in Argentina, Ecuador, Peru and Calgary. I earned my Master's in Architecture & Urban Planning from the University of Buenos Aires and hold a diploma in Computer Technology. I am always taking courses and participating in workshops, and it was at one of those, at the Wildflower Art Center in Calgary, that I became reacquainted with pastels. It was love at first (rather, second...) sight and I have been painting in that medium since. In my art I try to portray what moves me in a place or situation, sometimes something ordinary, and sometimes a spiritual connection with Nature and its creatures. My favourite thing to do is to carry a sketchbook with me as I travel, and record my experiences in graphic form. More often than not those sketches become paintings.
