I am inspired by the landscapes of Alberta and the colors found in nature, such as in flowers and crops growing in the fields and mountains of Alberta. My development as an artist passed from representation to abstraction and then to abstract realism. My great insight came when I used the vibrant colors obtained from painting flowers to create a palate consisting of the primary colors as expressed in the fall’s natural palate. Inspired by the thick strokes of Van Gogh and these vibrant colors, I painted intuitively a scene from the Foothills of Alberta, which became my model and framework from then on. You can trace my development in the eight works in oil and acrylic shown here.
